Illustrated history of community forged from iron.
AN illustrated talk entitled Hallam Fields: A Community Forged From Iron will be given at the next Stapleford and District Local History Society meeting.
Stephen Flinders gives the presentation at Maycliffe Hall, Toton Lane, Stapleford, next Wednesday at 7.30pm.
The Hallam Fields area of Ilkeston developed in the shadow of Stanton Ironworks, which once employed more than 10,000 people and made bombs in the Second World War.
Programme secretary Nigel Brooks said: “Stephen is a popular and regular visitor who always gives an informative and entertaining talk in his own inimitable way. This is bound to be a popular evening and will attract a good crowd.”
The group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm at Maycliffe Hall.
Admission is £2.50 for visitors and £1.50 for members. Nigel Lowey will give a talk, St Pancras – History, Neglect and Regeneration, at the February 13 meeting and Tim Preston will talk about Wollaton Hall and Park on March 13.
