Best of British Window Competition
Timeline – Wednesday, 1st May 2013: The Town Mayor and Mayor of Broxtowe’s ‘mission’ – to judge the Best of British Window Competition.
Fast forward to Saturday, 4th May 2013, the judging was over, the Freedom Parade had passed with great festivity, Derby Road had been festooned with flags and bunting and Stapleford looked great.
In true British tradition it had rained and this perhaps highlighted how appropriate the winner of the Best of British Window competition was: Treetops (Furniture) Charity Shop was. The display featured all those things we associate with a traditional British summer holiday, and don’t forget the ‘brollies’ and the ‘wellies’!
This event was great fun with everyone having their own take on what was meant by ‘Best of British’. Afternoon tea featured in the displays; as did a number of tributes to the armed services. Others hung bunting and flew the flag. A novel Take was the display by Dove Vets, who had photographs of various ‘clients’ displaying their Britishness (with a little help from their vet!).
