Poundstretcher arrives in Stapleford

Eighteen new jobs have been created as budget retail chain Poundstretcher opens in Stapleford.

The new branch will be situated in the former Co-op supermarket in Derby Road.

Mayor of Stapleford, Councillor Susan Roome, will (officially) open the new store on Friday, January 13. (opening on Tuesday at 830am)

The new jobs include 15 sales assistant roles and three managers to work in the new store.

Within the new Stapleford branch, Poundstretcher will also open a branch of its sister store, The Pet Hut, which will sell pet beds, treats, brushes and animal care essentials.

Wendy Flint, area manager of the new store, said: “It’s great we are opening the doors to many job opportunities as well as offering the Stapleford area a fantastic selection of products all under one roof.”

Councillor Richard MacRae, who also runs Stapleford Community Group, has mixed opinions about the store opening.

He told the Post: “It is good that it has not been left as an empty building but with all the shops in town we already have shops like it. It is such a shame we didn’t know what was happening a long time ago. I just worry for the other shops like Bargain Buys and Pound Plus. We could have done with a supermarket. We have not got a large supermarket.”
