£10,000 of improvements made to Ilkeston Road Recreation Ground
Young people in Stapleford and Bramcote can get active outdoors thanks to £10,000 worth of improvements to a park.
The Ilkeston Road Recreation Ground has taken delivery of four pieces of new outdoor fitness equipment, as well as a new tyre park – believed to be the first of its kind in the Broxtowe borough area.
The work was carried out thanks to a £10,000 Awards for All Big Lottery Fund grant, won by Stapleford Community Group, who have worked with Broxtowe Borough Council, which owns the land, on the project. Leicester-based Playground Projects Ltd installed the pieces on Thursday and Friday.
Councillor Richard MacRae, an Independent councillor who represents Stapleford North on Stapleford town and Broxtowe Borough Councils, and also chairman of Stapleford Community Group, said: “I am over the moon with it. That’s over £65,000 we have now had spent on this park.
“The tyre park has been installed on the play area which is already there. The sports activities have been installed where there was previously the young children’s play area. We had the two play areas combined into one and the path done from our last grant of £49,999.”
