Below is some basic crime prevention advice

GENERAL HOME SECURITY TIPS:
Have a good alarm fitted and make sure you get it serviced once a year to prevention false activation
Fit mortise locks or bolts to all outside doors and locks to all downstairs or easily accessible windows.
Don’t leave valuables, like your TV, laptop or DVD player, where people can see them through the window.
Most burglars get in through a back door of window. Make it difficult for them by locking all side or back gates and adding trellis to the top of walls and fencing. Fit lights that come on at night to cover sides and back of your house.
Immobilise is a nationwide database used exclusively by the police to search for serial numbers of a whole range of goods. Web registration is free and allows residents to record all property that is identified by serial number. Visit www.immobilise.com and register as many of your personal possessions as possible.
Look to use DNA property marking systems such as smart water or ultra-violet pen on valuable items. It allows police to identify whereabouts the items have been stolen.
Smartwater can be obtained from FOX electrical at Beeston at a small cost.
Check what you keep in your shed and if it is of value remove it into your house were valuables can be better protected. Fit a shed alarm and good quality locks and bolts.

Keep side gates locked and also think about chain locks on the front gates.

Try growing a hedge with thorns on such as holly

If you have a garage then place your vehicles in there and make sure it has good locks on.

Vehicle advice

Don’t leave items on display, remove valuables and wipe away sat nav marks
Always lock your vehicle, and don’t forget the boot and windows
Fit an immobiliser or an alarm, and use a steering lock to deter criminals. Get more information about these devices by calling the Vehicle Security National Helpline on 0870 5502006 or the Sold Secure Helpline on 01327 264687

Consider buying anti-theft screws for your number plate and attach lockable wheel nuts to help prevent wheels from being stolen
Have your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) etched on windows, windscreens and headlamps
Keep serial numbers for electrical items such as CD changers or sat navs, and mark them with your vehicle registration number. This will help the police return items to you if they’re stolen and later recovered
