Council bins idea to cut calendar info

4th November 2013 Broxtowe Borough Council, Help & Advice, Nottingham Evening Post Tags: 0 Comments

A COUNCIL has made a U-turn over a controversial policy to scrap the delivery of bin collection calendars.

In October, Broxtowe Borough Council announced it would no longer distribute a physical copy of the dates when rubbish was to be collected.

But at a full council meeting on Wednesday, members raised concerns about the policy and then decided to scrap it.

Cabinet member for environment Richard Robinson said:

“In consultation with the leader of the council, Milan Radulovic, and myself, a decision was made to authorise the reproduction and delivery of the waste and recycling calendar.

“We have already started on arrangements for the calendar, which will be delivered between November 16 and December 1.

“The council has listened to Broxtowe residents and taken on board their comments to ensure we provide the best service possible.”

Scrapping delivery of the calendars would have saved the council between £6,000 and £8,000.

David Watts, leader of the Liberal Democrats on the council said:

“It was the right thing to do. Its great to do what we can online, but not everything. Sometimes the old ways are the best.”
