THIRTY new jobs will be created when a new supermarket opens its doors.

Iceland will take the place of the Pavilion pub, in Derby Road, Stapleford, when it is fully built.

The new frozen food store has been welcomed by other local businesses.

Manager Jay Lewis, of the Horse and Jockey pub in Nottingham Road, Stapleford, said: “I think this is a great opportunity for the town.

“Jobs are scarce and this could do wonders for people and their families in this area.

“I want to wish them all the best and I really hope it will bring positivity to the area.

“It is in a prime location and looks like it is going to have a massive car park which will hopefully attract a lot of people to the town.”

No opening date has yet been announced for the store, but it is predicted to be at some point in September.

Waitress Amy Blount of Brewleys cafe in Derby Road, said: “It has to be a good thing that so many new jobs are being created.

“The building itself has almost shot up overnight so it must be opening soon.

“There are a lot of people looking for jobs so this should really help.”

Stapleford Community Group chairman and councillor Richard MacRae has been working with Iceland to help with the distribution of job application forms.

He said: “This is a great opportunity for people to get a job. This is the biggest intake of jobs in Stapleford for a long time.

“I think that it will be a brilliant addition to the town and I hope that people will come to the town do their shopping and then have a walk around other shops.

“There will also be a chance for people to get advice and help on filling in the application forms.”

Application forms will be available from 2.15pm to 4.15pm at Stapleford Library in Church Street on Monday, June 9, and from 10am at The Meeting Place in Nottingham Road, the following day.

There will also be help and advice on filling out the forms at the Stapleford Work Club at the library on the Monday.

A spokesman for Iceland said: “We are delighted to confirm that we have a new store opening planned in Stapleford at Derby Road.

“We are unable to confirm the opening date as yet.”
