The Council’s Neighbourhood Wardens have a duty to seize any dog found straying. i.e. unaccompanied in a public place or on private property where it has not been invited.

Local authorities now have sole responsibility for stray dogs under s68 of the Clean Neighbourhood and Environment Act 2005. Finders of stray dogs, by law have to inform their local authority in the first instance.

Please do not take a stray dog to your local police station as they will not accept it.

If you have lost or found a dog, please call 0115 917 7777 during normal office hours.

For out of office hours please call 0115 917 3142.
