Broxtowe Borough Council Press Release: Hemlock Will Happen Again

11th June 2015 Broxtowe Borough Council, Upcoming Events Tags: , , 0 Comments

Broxtowe Borough Council has pledged to continue to support the annual Hemlock Happening at Bramcote Hills Park despite the disruption at the event on Saturday 6 June.

Following a full debrief on Wednesday 10 June which involved the event organisers, the Council’s Safety Advisory Group and Nottinghamshire Police, it has become very clear that everything that could have been done to ensure the event was safe was in place.

“The press reports and social media activity greatly exaggerated the incident and a decision was taken to close the event early. The incident was entirely due to a small minority of alcohol-fuelled people who were creating pockets of antisocial behaviour and general unrest” said Councillor Richard Jackson, Leader of Broxtowe Borough Council.

No arrests were made and the incident was dealt with quickly and efficiently by the police and the organiser but in order to avoid further disruption it was thought best to end the event before the firework display.

In all of its 13 year history, this is the first time that there has been any issues and despite the evening being cut short thousands of people had enjoyed the many activities and performances that took place on the day.

Hemlock Happening is a free fun packed family day with a great variety of live music, singing, dance, art & craft activities, sports and dozens of local groups, schools and local organisations providing interactive entertainment for all the family. Hemlock Happening is organised by Broxtowe Events in conjunction with The Bramcote & Stapleford Golden Jubilee Group. Next year’s event is now scheduled to take place on 4th June 2016.
