Teaching Assistant Nottinghamshire County Council – Stapleford
Clayfields House is a secure unit accommodating up to 18 young people between 10 and 17 years of age.
Our residents are sentenced, remanded or accommodated either by the youth justice system or on welfare grounds relating to risk. We have extensive education facilities including specialist classrooms and a full gymnasium.
Young people benefit from a broad and balanced curriculum for 25 hours per week. Our students frequently present a variety of learning difficulties including social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD), specific learning difficulties (Spld) and autism.
We require a teaching assistant to join our established Study Support Team.
Ofsted described teaching assistant practice at Clayfields House as “excellent” and “very effective” in supporting young people with special educational needs. Teaching assistants at Clayfields House provide professional, targeted support within groups and on a 1:1 basis using multi-sensory teaching techniques and tools to improve literacy, numeracy and achievement across the curriculum.
Successful applicants for all positions will need to demonstrate:
Excellent communication skills and the ability to form professional and supportive relationships with young people.
High expectations for the academic achievement of young people in challenging circumstances.
Excellent practical understanding of a range of special educational needs, including SEBD, Spld and autism.
Good literacy and numeracy skills and an ongoing commitment to professional development.
Flexibility, tolerance and the ability to work as part of a dynamic, committed multi-disciplinary team.
Commitment to and understanding of the principles of equality and opportunity and the everyday valuing of our diverse community.
