Police are linking two violent robberies in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire late on Friday night which they believe are linked.

The first happened in Hickings Lane Stapleford , in Nottinghamshire, at about 11.20pm when a 56-year-old man, who was on his way home from the local working men’s club, was approached by three youths and assaulted near the Dip News Store.

During the attack, he was robbed of his mobile phone and a set of keys and suffered severe bruising to his face which required treatment at the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) in Nottingham.

It is believed the offenders drove to the scene in an old-style Ford Focus.

The same car was reportedly seen during an earlier incident in Stapleford when two men confronted a member of the public who was out walking his dog.

A similar vehicle was seen driving to Sandiacre, just across the county border.

At about 11.30pm that night, passers-by found a man lying injured in Hayworth Road, Sandiacre.

They rang an ambulance and he was taken to the QMC.

The 39-year-old has head, face and chest injuries and remains in a serious but stable condition.

Detectives believe he has been assaulted and robbed by several men but officers have not yet been able to speak to him.

Anyone with information should call Derbyshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
