No great surprise though as Councillor Richard MacRae announced it last week as you may have read on this website.

**Nottingham’s two new tram lines will finally begin running on Tuesday, it has been announced.

NET and Nottingham City Council confirmed the extended lines from Nottingham train station to Clifton South and Stapleford (correct location added by site admin) would be open to the public from just after 6am tomorrow.

It marks the end of a three-year construction project costing £570 million that affected businesses and residents along the route, while the announcement comes eight months later than planned.

Anticipation mounted while the final stages of timetable trials took place over the past few weeks and a VIP preview tram ride was held on both lines earlier this month.

Line 3 will include a stop at the Queen’s Medical Centre, making Nottingham the first city to have a tram to serve a major hospital.

Passengers can also board a tram in Beeston, Stapleford and The Meadows, while it passes through major employers at the NG2 Business Park and University of Nottingham.

The new network will connect with the existing lines from Hucknall and Phoenix Park to the train station.

I’m surprised Richard MacRae persists with his belief that the tram’s terminus is based in Stapleford rather than Toton. Proof of the boundaries between Stapleford and Toton has been provided to him but he seemingly refuses to accept it. I don’t have a problem with him holding on to his delusions but should others take him at his word then he is surely guilty of deliberately misleading people. Not a responsible or characteristic of an elected councillor; his constituents and both councils must be embarrassed.

    • We will have to agree to disagree on this one. May we suggest you go to the new Tram Terminus on Toton Lane, Stapleford and do a Facebook check in. Have a look at where it says you are or will the GPS coordinates also be wrong.

Even the stupid small sign put in says Toton is after Toton lane. The way the roads work is the road name is leading into that place from the other. So Toton lane is in Stapleford going to Toton. Stapleford Lane is in Toton going towards Stapleford. It really is very simple.

  3. There’s a sign on Stapleford Lane past the tram terminus and the school, near the electricity substation thingy. I always thought Toton started there – seems a no brainer to me.
