Achievement at Bramcote College 2015

5th October 2015 Local Schools Tags: , , , , 0 Comments

2015 saw a continued increase in student attainment and achievement and
our students have all gone on to destinations which reflect their positive
experiences at Bramcote College. The majority of our students went to university in 2015 and it is one of our strengths that every single one of our students is already in higher education, training or employment. There has been a strong increase in our ALIS performance, which is our key student
progress indicator. We are proud that Bramcote College gives students a
valuable education that matches their wide range of needs and the
evidence shows that our college prepares them extremely well for their
futures. Over their two years with the College, sixth formers mature into
well-rounded individuals who are prepared for their next stage in life.
In a year of improved results there were many individual success stories,
including students who have achieved A or A* across the board and have
gone on to study at Russell Group Universities. Aside from the academic
subjects there was a strong performance across the board in our
vocational subjects such as Sport, ICT and Science and our aim is to
ensure that both academic and vocational performance is clearly above
the national average. The reasons for this success are simple –we have a
team of high quality teachers, who know their subjects inside out, teach to
relatively small groups and have high expectations.
Extra-curricular
Over the last year, a number of sixth-form students have had the
opportunity to learn from a wide range of courses, including British Sign
Language and Duke of Edinburgh. This year we will see the introduction of
work experience in the summer term for Year 12 students and these
opportunities help our students develop into mature young adults.
Support
Our team is highly committed to student success- we have an open door
policy to students and are available at all times during the day. A wide
range of support is also given to the “next steps” after sixth form. This
includes extensive preparation for university, apprenticeships or getting a
job. We use a wide range of external speakers from local universities and
employers who give useful insights into these areas. We ensure that we
know all of our students well, and in many cases they will be taught by
teachers who have known them since they were 11 years old, and so we
are able to provide exceptional pastoral care, including support, guidance
and encouragement when it is needed, working with students and their
parents to ensure progress. Our students have an excellent relationship
with all College staff and can talk to them when they have a problem.
Open Evening for prospective Year 12 students
As you will see elsewhere in the Newsletter, on Wednesday, October 14th
we are holding our Open Evening at Bramcote College from 6 – 8pm. This
is a very important occasion for us, because it gives prospective students
the chance to find out about the range of courses we offer and to talk to
teachers and current students about life at College. I am sure it will be a
busy and informative evening and I hope to see you there.
