12th September 2016 Broxtowe Borough Council, Upcoming Events Tags: , , , 0 Comments

HI-TECH TREASURE HUNTERS will cash in this weekend as they take part in a Cache In, Trash Out event at Hickings Lane Recreation Ground
in Stapleford.

As part of the unique event, between 10.00am and 12.00pm, the Geocachers will litter pick at the park, whilst they seek out hidden treasures known as Geocaches. New caches will also be activated on the day.

Saturday 17th September

A ‘geocache’ is usually a small concealed waterproof container holding a pen and logbook for the ‘treasure hunters’ to sign. Larger containers may also include small toys, trinkets and trackable items which the geocacher exchanges. If items are taken out of the cache, then something of equal or greater value is left in return.

Broxtowe Borough Council will be providing litter pickers and bags on the day as part of its commitment to tackle anti-social behaviour such as litter, dog fouling and fly tipping.

Broxtowe Borough Council hid four geocaches in parks in Beeston, Kimberley, Stapleford and Kimberley in 2012.

Cache In Trash Out is an on-going environmental initiative supported by the worldwide geocaching community. Since
2002, geocachers have been dedicated to cleaning up parks and other cache-friendly places around the world.

Cache In Trash Out doesn’t just happen once a year. It can easily happen on every geocache adventure. Bring a trash bag along with you on your walks in the woods and pick up the occasional piece of trash you see on the trail. Even this small act can make a huge difference.
