UPDATE FROM COUNCILOR RICHARD MACRAE
We are happy to share any update from any Councillor in Stapleford and we look forward to hearing from them.
The following is submitted by Stapleford Independent Councillor Richard MacRae.
I most certainly don’t live under a rock.
I most certainly don’t appear only when an Election is coming up.
I have been helping feed the hungry for many years. I have collected and donated over 13,000 equivalent meals. Delivering food to local Churches, Play Groups and the Youth Club and local Independent Living Complexes and I would like to thank my good friend Kenny from Long Eaton who I work with and my good friend Des from Ilkeston who I also work with.
I have organised 15 Job Fairs (2 a Year) helping 100s of people back into work( I even got an award off David Cameron when he was Prime Minister) and training, or helping them with support and advice. I also spent several years as a volunteer at the Stapleford Work Club until Nottinghamshire County Council sadly shut it down. It was me who organised the Recruitment Day for Iceland at Stapleford Library making sure local jobs were for local people. I am now in talks with Aldi to try and do the same with them.
I have supported businesses in our community, advertised jobs, helped with recruitment and promoted them and even helped collect stock from warehouses. #ShopLocal. I was proud to be a member of the Stapleford Town Team until Broxtowe Borough Council shut it down. It was the Stapleford Town Team who helped bring the Free WiFi to our Town Centre.
In have helped to bring thousands of pounds to improve local Parks and Recreation Ground in Stapleford by working via Stapleford Community Group and with Broxtowe Borough Council Officers, NOT Political Groups.
I have helped make sure Stapleford has enough 24 Hour Access Community Defibrillators to cover the whole Town and taught CPR to 100s of People too.
I have worked hard with local residents, busineses and a small amount of Stapleford Town Councillors to organise the Stapleford Neighbourhood Plan, something which has since been supported by All of the Stapleford Town Councillors.
I must hold a record for being nominated to be the Deputy Mayor of Stapleford (3 times now) then when it comes to the Vote I was Voted against mainly by Councillors who only attend a meeting once every 6 Months to retain a seat on the Council.
I organised the Your Stapleford Your Ideas meetings. Three meetings where by working with local residents and Councillors alike we came up with great ideas to benefit Stapleford, all of which were submitted to our County Councillors then sadly completely ignored by them.
I have lost count of how many Potholes I have reported and had repaired. How many Pavements I have had repaired, dropped kerbs installed and street lights fixed. As well as Hedges cut back. And Road Markings repainted.
I got Stapleford Town Council to set up a HS2 Working Group as I know how much HS2 is going to impact Stapleford. I have organised several meetings between HS2 and the Council and local residents. No one else was interested in doing so.
I am also an honorary member of the Stapleford Combined Services Club (Which Councillors David Grindell and John Longdon introduced me to). Working with this amazing group we have not only supported many local residents I was also able to set up #StaplefordRemembers, this group not only put up the Poppies and organised events to Commemorate the 100th Year since the end of The Great War we also put events on in Local Schools and St Helens Church too.
I helped local residents to set up the Let’s Talk Mental Health Group which now meets the first Thursday of each Month at the Stapleford Salvation Army.
I will be standing again in the Local Elections in May 2019.
This is for both Stapleford Town Council and Broxtowe Borough Council for the Stapleford North Ward.
This is your chance to elect me again to allow me to carry on helping and serving you as I do now. It would be great to be able to carry in doing what I love doing.
All I do is self funded and I have had people ask how they can help me. There are a few things you can do.
If you like what I do and want me to represent you again please tell a friend and encourage them to vote for me.
I have been asked how to donate to help me fund my election campaign, you can make a kind donation via the link below.

I am not one of them Councillors you don’t see until and election comes along, I hope you will agree I am always available and always more than happy to help.
