Requests To Share CCTV Footage.

11th March 2019 Help & Advice, Stapleford Community Group Tags: 4 Comments

Before we can post any CCTV images on this website or our social media feeds we need to know the Police have checked the CCTV Footage and given permission to share it.

As much as we are always happy to help whenever possible we have been advised by the Police that posting such footage could lead to the possibility of jeopardising a case if it was to go to Court.

So whilst we are happy to help please let us know that the Police are okay with any CCTV footage being shared if you ask us to share on your behalf.

If the footage has been caught in your own garden or on private land people can share without any problem as this does not infringe data protection laws, only footage showing public areas or communal areas are breaking data protection laws. Also data protection seems to be put aside when the authorities want to post it, so though I may not post on this site if I feel the need to post on others I will as my footage only covers my property

It’s more than just data protection laws and after advise from the Police it’s the way we are going.

Without going into detail, there may be legal difficulties over identification. CCTV is a bit of a minefield!

Most definitely and the last thing we would want to do is jeopardise a court case by posting video footage without the Police say so.
