Aldi Construction Site Update By Councillor Richard MacRae
Having received concerns about the Aldi Construction Site Stapleford Councillor Richard MacRae contacted the contractors.
Below is the reply he received.
We have also attached the latest Newsletter which will be delivered to residents around the site.
Good morning Councillor MacRae,
Thank-you for the email in regards to our construction site on Nottingham Road, Stapleford. We value your feedback and are doing all we can to minimise the disruption to local
businesses and residents during the construction of the new Aldi store and housing.
With regards to your concerns over the state of the roads, following regular inspections, whilst we already had road sweepers in attendance 12-4pm
daily, following feedback from local residents we put our road sweepers on full time on 7th and 8th February. We also hired a jet wash bowser w/c 4th February to ensure that wheels were cleaned on departure of site. We have
continued with regular road sweeper activity since. As a result of this increase in road sweeper activity we received a number of complaints regarding the road sweeper causing congestion on the roads. We have also had vehicles undertaking making it increasingly
The incident whereby the motor cyclist came off his bike occurred approximately a month ago, 12th February when all of the above precautions
were already in place. The gentleman concerned came onto our site on foot, was assessed to have sustained minor injuries and was asked if he required any medical assistance, to which he declined. He was also advised to report the incident to the police. As
he had no identification or personal protective equipment, in adherence with our Health & Safety policy, he was escourted off the site. We have received no further communications from the police or the gentleman concerned.
Following your email, our Site Manager made immediate checks that all wagons leaving site were properly netted. Earthworks have now completed on
site and as a result there should be noticeable changes in the cleanliness of the immediate areas surrounding our sites
As part of the Considerate Constructor scheme, we value the feedback of the local residents. Following comments raised, in addition to those outlined
above, we have put a number of measures in place in order to action their concerns, as follows:
Our sub-contractor was coming onto site early and starting their machines. When we found out, we took action and changed the timing of the site gate lock to ensure
no-one was able to get on to site until the designated time.
A few residents raised concerns that as elderly pensioners, they were unable to afford to regularly wash their cars made dirty by our works. Our site manager has
therefore personally washed local residents cars on site as a result.
One resident explained that she worked night shifts and as a result we have personally informed her of upcoming works that may disrupt her sleeping patterns.
To keep you informed, I have attached our latest newsletter for our residential site which will be hand delivered over the next week and the last
newsletter sent out for the Aldi site in December. With every newsletter, we send a Considerate Constructors questionnaire (attached) and invite recipients to give their views.
Rest assured that we take all feedback seriously, and will do all we can to limit disruptions to those living and working locally.
