Investigation begins after disturbance in Stapleford
Police investigating a disturbance involving knives have arrested three men.
Officers were swiftly on the scene at Ryecroft Street in Stapleford at around 11.40pm last night following a report of a disturbance.
The men were arrested for public order offences and remain in custody, but investigations continue in relation to others who may have been involved or witnessed the incident.
Officers also recovered three knives at the scene.
Broxtowe Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Simon Riley, said “It was the funeral of murder victim Joe Whitchurch yesterday, and understandably people wanted to gather to mourn and support each other after his tragic death.
“This passed peacefully and without event and we are grateful to the respect shown by all that were in attendance.
“This reported incident occurred late on into the evening and we are still investigating the circumstances behind it.
“We are committed to working with partners to target any criminality, violence and anti-social behaviour that affects our communities in Stapleford.
“In the last few months we have increased patrols and deployed a dedicated knife crime team in the area, but importantly we have been working with partners and third sector providers to engage, prevent and divert young people from becoming involved in crime.
“One person losing their life to knife crime is one too many and our thoughts remain with Joe’s family throughout this difficult time.
